Independent decision making in the future world of connected devices is empowered by the artificial intelligence technology. Communication beyond 5G, smart homes, smart cities, with intelligent transportation system will regulate and modernize human civilization as well. Intelligence in connected vehicles brings one step closer to achieve the goals of fully autonomous and driverless efficient vehicles that enable the internet of Energy (IoE) in vehicular networks. Hence, intelligent communication network technologies will lay the foundation of the new generation of communication network paradigms.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has recently drawn the attention of researchers and scientist that resulted in several AI problem-solving algorithms, most of which still are at early stages, improving and evolving with time. These powerful algorithms can process huge amount of data and make intelligent decisions independently. With the massive and dynamin traffic demand from communicating devices on the network as well as heterogeneous nature of the system, it is highly unlikely to efficiently manage this dynamic communication system without the designing intelligence and/or machine learning-based schemes. AI in vehicular networks is the demand of time that requires the network as well as the communicating vehicles to make smart decisions to establish communication between vehicle to vehicle (V2V), vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle to everything (V2X). Intelligence in the communicating network will further complement the security and privacy of the network. Intelligent communication protocols will lead to efficient use of available resources. Specifically, in hybrid and battery-powered vehicles, wireless battery charging advanced intelligent features can further make the on-road journey more economical and comfortable.
